The movie Drive Hard is an Australian released in 2014 directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith and written by Chad Law, Evan Law, and Smith.

The movie stars John Cusack as Simon Keller, Thomas Jane as Peter Roberts and Zoe Ventoura as Agent Walker.

Drive Hard Movie Synopsis

Former race car driver and American expatriate Peter Roberts has retired at the insistence of his lawyer wife, although he refuses to get an office job. He instead becomes an instructor at a driving school, while waiting for an investment opportunity to open a racing school. After he took his daughter to school and learned that he could no longer afford private school fees, he took on a fellow American as his first client. The man, Simon Keller, revealed that he had been investigating Roberts' finances and personal life. Distracted, Roberts insisted on ending lessons and returning to school. Keller agreed but requested that they stop at the bank first so that he could pay Roberts.

As Keller exits the bank, he shoots at the guards, drops the bag into the car, and asks Roberts to be his getaway driver. Roberts protested in disbelief and tried to surrender to the police, who also shot at him. Roberts reluctantly left and evaded the police. Keller offers to split a percentage of the loot, but a panicked Roberts insists that he will now end up in jail. Keller assured him that the police would not pursue them, as the bank was owned and managed by a criminal syndicate with connections to the local police. Rossi, Keller's former partner, had previously betrayed him in the United States and then joined the Australian syndicate.

Rossi called the police and hired mercenaries to kill them. However, Agent Walker of the Australian Federal Police took over the investigation over the objections of the corrupt Chief Detective Inspector Smith. Walker immediately threatens Rossi and Smith, both of whom he suspects are part of the syndicate. Meanwhile, Keller and Roberts argue about Roberts' disappointments in life, which Keller believes are the result of giving up on his dreams. Upset, Roberts refuses to drive any further, and Keller shoots him with a rubber bullet. The two change cars, and Roberts is once again the reluctant driver.

After they evade Rossi's assassin, his car breaks down, and they break into the reception hall. The owner recognized them, and an old woman viciously attacked Roberts after accidentally shooting her husband. Roberts and Keller escape in her husband's sports car and stop for gas. There, they were again recognized and attacked, although the cashier accidentally killed herself with her own shotgun. At Keller's insistence, Roberts called the police and his wife, telling both that he had been taken hostage, although no one believed him at first. To increase Roberts' fear and make him more believable, Keller put a gun to Roberts' head and threatened to kill him. In response, Roberts briefly pistol-whipped Keller with the old woman's gun, but he handed it over when he realized that it was empty.
